Aim
To provide MMA Coaches with structured processes and principles of ethical MMA coaching. To offer coaches the tools to acquire a working knowledge of all aspects of becoming a recognised MMA coach, to produce a uniformed and certified structure to our sport that will be recognised by Governments and Officials not familiar with MMA and its benefits.
Objectives
During the programme of study delegates will:
- Appreciate ethical coaching practice as outlined in the Code of Conduct for your organisation
- Understand the fundamental principles relating to all aspects of MMA, including nutrition, sports psychology, performance analysis and physiology
- Understand the needs of different groups of delegates
- Produce a short-term coaching programme for MMA
- Produce session plans for MMA coaching sessions
- Prepare for and organise planned coaching sessions to ensure health, safety and welfare of delegates
- Prepare delegates to participate in coaching sessions
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships to support the coaching process
- Deliver safe and effective MMA sessions to improve performance of delegates
- Produce action plans for future coaching sessions
- Communicate effectively with different groups of delegates
- Deal with injuries and signs of illness
- Follow emergency procedures
- Recognise and report signs of possible abuse and respond appropriately to disclosure.

Unit 1 – Principles of Coaching in MMA
At the end of the course delegates should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of ethical coaching practice and behaviour.
- Provide guidance on safe practice and the prevention of injury.
- Explain relevant aspects of MMA coaching including nutrition sports psychology, sports science and performance analysis.
- Deal with injuries, illnesses and emergencies that may be presented by delegates during coaching sessions.
- Understand the nature and importance of effective communication skills and relationships in MMA coaching.
Unit 2 – Effective Coaching Practices
At the end of the course delegates should be able to:
- Prepare and plan a safe, ethical and effective MMA Coaching session.
- Conduct coaching sessions to improve participant’s personal performance.
- Effectively evaluate coaching sessions to develop an action plan for improvement.
All units are assessed externally through a portfolio of evidence and observation of coaching practice.
Delegates will be assessed via knowledge tests, evidence gathering, coaching assignments and observed assessments of practical MMA coaching sessions.
