Aims

Gain information surrounding the existing services for IBD and how to avail of them, including the role of the helpline, in order to incorporate these channels into primary care offering.

Objectives

  • Gain information on local pathways to help in the earlier diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
  • Understand the use of Faecal Calprotectin.
  • Gain an understanding on the ISTART trial to Primary care teams and how it can improve management of an Ulcerative Colitis flare.
  • Establish better links between primary and secondary care in the management of IBD.
  • Empower patients to Self- Manage their Inflammatory Bowel Disease and flare ups.
  • Be able to download and use the Digital Flare card.
  • Know how and when to refer patients to the IBD advice-line or to access advice from the IBD service.

Ruth Hall

Ruth has been a IBD Clinical Nurse Specialist for 9 years, and enjoys watching the service has grow year upon year. Ruth is passionate about working within the IBD area and constantly strives to improve patient experience in challenging times.

Lynsey Breen

Lynsey qualified from Queens university Belfast in 2003, and has worked in the field of Gastroenterology for 19 years. Her role entails bowel cancer screening, but has more recently evolved to include IBD Nursing.

Dr Andrew Murdock

Dr Murdock is a Consultant Gastroenterologist working in the Southern Trust. He holds his role as Deputy Chief Information Officer, and is motivated by how technology can help better manage chronic conditions. He also represents Northern Ireland on the IBD UK National Committee and Chairs the Northern Ireland IBD interest group.
