Venepuncture and Cannulation

This course for healthcare professionals who wish to be kept updated with the latest legislation and practical techniques in relation to Venepuncture and Cannulation. Suitable for: Registered Nurses.

Objective:

To present current methods for blood withdrawals and insertion of IV cannulas in line with local guidelines and legislation.

 

 Learning Outcomes:

  • Review legal and professional implications relating to venepuncture and cannulation
  • Discuss and identify venous anatomy and physiology of the normal arm in order to perform skills
  • Define and apply infection control procedures when performing skills
  • Demonstrate safe and correct venepuncture and cannulation on a manikin arm
  • Evaluate the importance of documentation and aftercare
