To provide clinical skills and an understanding of health screening, common tests, procedures and record keeping and its importance.
OBJECTIVES
- Overview of clinical observations and how to effectively communicate with the patient before carrying out any procedure.
- Identify good record keeping and consent.
- Overview and demonstration of various basic observations.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the course delegates should be able to:
- Understand the anatomy and physiology that relates to clinical observations.
- Effectively communicate with patient and demonstrate good record keeping.
- Discuss normal and abnormal clinical observations and vital signs.
- Understand the clinical significance of abnormal vital sign readings.
- Perform a range of clinical observations under supervision including:
- Blood pressure
- Blood glucose testing
- Pulse
- Pulse oximetry
- Respiration
- Temperature
- Urine test
- Peak flow
- Glasgow Coma Scale
- Teaching inhaler techniques.
