Clinical Skills for Healthcare Assistants Training

Delegates will learn how to properly measure and record patient observations, and will have the opportunity to actively engage in simulated scenarios and exercises, allowing them to develop their observational abilities in a controlled and supportive environment.

Aim

Learn the fundamental concepts related to patient observation, including the theoretical understanding and importance of health screening, accurate record keeping, common vital signs, tests, and other relevant indicators of patient health.

Objectives

  • Overview of clinical observations and how to effectively communicate with the patient before carrying out any procedure
  • Identify good record keeping and consent
  • Recognise normal and abnormal clinical observations
  • Understanding and accurately recording various basic observations, including:

– Blood pressure

– Blood glucose testing

– Pulse

– Pulse oximetry

– Respiration

– Temperature

– Urine tests

– Peak flow

– Glasgow Coma Scale

– Inhaler techniques

  • Understand the anatomy and physiology that relates to clinical observations
  • Effectively communicate with patient and demonstrate good record keeping

  • Perform a range of clinical observations under supervision
