Essential Obstetric Ultrasound Training

This course covers both the basic principles of obstetric ultrasound as well as its practical application, with an extensive review of the diagnosis and management of antenatal fetal ultrasound.

Suitable for: All trainees in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Midwives providing antenatal care, Nurses, Radiographers and Sonographers and General Practitioners who provide antenatal care and perform ultrasound scans in the community.

Aim

To provide the basic principles of, and application of, obstetric ultrasound including the diagnosis and management of antenatal fetal ultrasound.

  • Outline the basic physics involved with scanning
  • Discuss early pregnancy
  • Discuss second and third trimester
  • Discuss multiple pregnancy
  • Discuss anomaly scans
  • Outline the basic of clinical genetics
  • Demonstrate the use of scanning in practical procedures and screening
  • Outline the communication of results and breaking bad news
  • Discuss the placenta, biophysical assessment and dopplers

Please note, interactive practical sessions and case-based discussions will be used to review common dilemmas, rare conditions and advanced ultrasound techniques.
