Designated Child Protection Officer Training

A workplace’s appointed Child Protection Officer is responsible for the provision of children’s safety and wellbeing, intervening in cases of maltreatment. They must also deal with sensitivity and confidential issues including parents and staff.

Suitable for: Nursery Staff, Childminders, Teachers, Classroom Assistants, Parents, Underage Coaches and anyone who deals with children on a regular basis.

Aim

To become knowledgeable of the roles and responsibilities of the designated officer according to the child protection framework, according to current legislation.

Objectives

  • Outline the role of the Designated Child Protection Officer, how to support staff and deal with sensitive issues with parents
  • Discuss whistleblowing and how to manage allegations against staff
  • Identify the values regarding child abuse and explanation of the impact of these on professional practice
  • Identify barriers to staff reporting child protection concerns and consideration of strategies to alleviate them
  • Outline the importance of record keeping and communicating confidential and sensitive issues

Qualification

A certificate is provided upon successful completion, and is valid for three years, after which attendees must re-qualify.

Prerequisite

Delegates must hold a current Safeguarding Children or Designated Child Protection Officer qualification and must be willing to provide evidence of this prior to attending Designated Child Protection Officer Training. We accept certificates up until 90 days after their expiry.

At the end of the course delegates should be able to:

  • Support staff dealing with Child Protection issues

  • Work with parents when dealing with sensitive issues
  • Manage stress and seek support
  • Ensure Child Protection/Safeguarding is raised at each AGM
