Safeguarding Children for Early Years Staff

Gain the knowledge of how to protect children’s welfare by preventing, identifying and intervening in circumstances including harm and abuse. This course is crucial for everyone in regular contact with children and young people as it empowers attendees with the knowledge of how to appropriately respond to concerns and referrals.

Aim

To become knowledgeable of the roles and responsibilities as a childcare worker within the child protection framework, according to current legislation.

Objectives

  • Outline the roles and responsibilities as a childcare worker.
  • Identify signs and symptoms of potential abuse and neglect, and the potential impact on children.
  • Discuss how to manage concerns, and barriers to reporting.
  • Identify appropriate reporting structures and effective and ethical record keeping.
  • Discuss child protection policies and procedures.
  • Outline the importance of understanding the vulnerability of children with special needs.
  • Discuss the role of the Designated Child Protection Officer.

Qualification

A certificate is provided upon successful completion, and is valid for three years, after which attendees must re-qualify.

At the end of the course delegates should be able to:

  • Identify the importance of values, and how they impact on reporting.
  • Demonstrate effective and ethical record keeping.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the vulnerability of children with special needs.
