Aim
Demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective paediatric first aid in situations which can arise when looking after children.
Objectives
- Be able to assess an emergency situation safely.
- Conduct both a scene and primary survey.
- Provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally.
- Identify when to administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and demonstrate on a manikin.
- Administer first aid on an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally.
- Place a casualty into the recovery position.
- Monitor vital signs.
- Identify, manage and treat an infant and a child who is choking.
Qualification
This qualification is valid for 1 year, and learners should retake the qualification before the certification expiry date. Learners must retake their primary paediatric first aid qualification (Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF)) before the 3-year expiry date to maintain the sequence of training recommendations issued by the EYFS. Learners must provide evidence of their in-date primary paediatric first aid qualification prior to attending this course.

At the end of the course delegates should be able to:
- Conduct a scene survey.
- Conduct a primary survey on an infant and a child.

- Administer CPR using an infant and a child manikin.

- Identify when choking is mild and severe.
- Administer first aid to an infant and a child who is choking.
